“On that day a great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria.” Acts 8:1
It took a great persecution to move the church out of Jerusalem. By moving out they were fulfilling the words of Jesus in Acts 1:8. The persecution arose because the Temple, one of the Jewish pillars of the Jewish faith, was challenged by Stephen and the early church. Stephen lost his life. The church moved out except for the apostles. What? The leaders stayed behind while the church moved out! Over the summer we will learn about these leaders.
